Alright guys.....

It's been ages since I have purchased a computer... Okay..... 6 years.... Still a long time though...... And all I have ever done to the one I have is upgrade the ram.

But now my system won't start, and I get an error message stating it doesn't recognize c:windows\system32\config\system.


It does state that I may be able to fix it with windows setup cd-rom....

But I'm using this as the excuse to the wife to uprade.... If ya know what I mean.




So... I do not need a mouse keyboard or monitor....

But a new system... Any suggestions??...

Oh... At the moment my wife said 1000.00 limit... But preferably less....

Well... I reinstalled windows... That fixed my issue... But the wife stated to go ahead and upgrade stuff to make it better....

First thing I know will be an external hard drive....

But not sure what next... Will try to build it myself... I may have to hit Hazzy up.... That's if he's still alive...

6 years old is pretty hard...like mine. More than likely, you'll need to buy new, not upgrade what you got. I'm sure your mobo won't take to the newer cpus.

Figure out if you want an AMD or Intel (I'd suggest Intel). You can get a pretty solid i5 system pretty cheap.

Here's a few prebuilt from newegg. You'd pretty much be able to either buy part by part and do your own build to something similiar or buy one of these and maybe upgrade the GPU a couple months down, after seeing how it performs.
